Product & design
What is Manta?
Manta is a portable side-screen monitor for MacBook. Two slim 14-inch panels attach to your laptop and slide out to give you a three-screen workspace, then fold flat so you can pack it in the same bag.
How does it attach to my MacBook?
Manta mounts to the back of your MacBook, and the two panels swing out to either side. When you're finished, they fold flat against the lid.
Does it cover my keyboard, trackpad or webcam?
No. Manta sits behind your screen and the panels extend out to the sides, so your keyboard, trackpad and webcam stay completely free to use.
How big are the screens, and what resolution are they?
Each side panel is around 14 inches — close to your MacBook's own display, so the three screens line up evenly. They're sharp, high-resolution IPS panels; the exact resolution is listed on the product page.
Can I position or angle the panels?
The panels open out to either side of your MacBook so each screen sits in your line of sight. Details on positioning are on the product page.
How much does it weigh, and what's it made of?
Manta is built to fold flat and travel light. The exact weight, thickness and materials are listed on the product page.
What's in the box
What's included in the box?
Your Manta monitor and the cable needed to connect it. The full box contents are listed on the product page.
Is a cable included, and do I need an adapter?
Manta connects over USB-C and comes with a cable. On a modern MacBook you shouldn't need a separate adapter — any USB-C port works for the display. Cable details are on the product page.
Is a carrying case included or available?
If a case is included or offered separately, you'll see it listed on the product page.
Compatibility
Which MacBooks are supported?
Manta is designed for 13–16″ MacBooks and works with Apple-silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3 and newer).
Does it work with the base M1, M2 and M3 chips?
Yes — Manta is built to work with the base M-series chips, not only the Pro and Max models.
My base MacBook only supports one external display — how does Manta give me two?
Many base MacBooks officially drive only one external display over USB-C. Manta uses a small display utility (DisplayLink / InstantView) that adds the screens through software, which is how you get two side panels even on a base chip. It's a one-time install.
Does it work with Intel Macs, Windows, iPad or Android?
Manta is made for Apple-silicon MacBooks. The underlying display software also runs on Windows, but we tune and support Manta for Mac. Older Intel Macs aren't our focus, and iPad and Android aren't supported.
Does it work in clamshell mode or through a dock?
Manta attaches to your open MacBook and uses its screen as the centre display, so it isn't meant for closed-lid use. It connects directly over USB-C rather than through a dock.
Setup & software
Is it plug-and-play, or do I need to install something?
Not quite plug-and-play. Because two extra displays run over a single USB-C cable, Manta uses a small, free display utility that you install once. After that it starts on its own whenever you connect.
What is the display driver (DisplayLink / InstantView) and why is it needed?
It's the standard software for running displays over USB. A normal USB-C monitor uses your Mac's built-in display output; Manta adds screens beyond what the hardware alone offers, and the utility is what makes that possible.
Is it safe — why does macOS ask for screen-recording permission?
Yes. That permission is simply how this display technology draws your screen onto the panels. Manta doesn't record, store or send your screen anywhere — the permission stays on your Mac.
How do I set it up the first time?
- Connect Manta to your Mac with the USB-C cable.
- Install the display utility (link in the box and setup guide).
- Arrange the panels in System Settings → Displays.
It's a one-time setup.
Will it keep working with future macOS versions?
The display software is actively maintained and updated for new macOS releases. As with any accessory that relies on a driver, there can be a short gap after a brand-new macOS version while an update is released.
Power & battery
How is Manta powered — one cable, or a separate adapter?
Manta connects to your Mac over USB-C. How it draws power, and whether any extra power is needed for your setup, is covered in the setup guide and on the product page.
Will running two extra screens drain my MacBook battery faster?
Driving two extra screens uses more energy, so your MacBook battery will run down somewhat faster than with the laptop alone — the same as with any external display. For long unplugged sessions, keep your charger handy.
Does it have a built-in battery?
Whether Manta includes its own battery is listed on the product page.
Performance & limitations
What refresh rate do the panels run at?
Up to 60Hz — smooth for work, browsing, coding, writing, spreadsheets and dashboards. It isn't designed for fast-paced gaming.
Can I watch Netflix or Disney+ on the side screens?
Protected (DRM) video from apps like Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime may not appear on the side panels — a limitation of how this display technology handles copy protection. Your main MacBook screen plays everything normally, and most other content works fine on the panels.
Can I game on it, and is there any input lag?
For everyday work you won't notice lag. Because the picture travels over USB, very fast motion such as gaming can show slight delay — so the panels are aimed at productivity rather than gaming.
Will it slow down my Mac or make it run hot?
Running extra displays over USB uses some processing power. On Apple-silicon Macs the impact is small for everyday work; very demanding tasks like heavy video export or 3D use more and can warm the laptop up, as those tasks always do.
Are the colours good enough for design and photo work?
The panels use IPS displays with good, consistent colour for everyday creative work. For colour-critical grading, professionals usually still rely on a calibrated main display.
Does it have speakers, audio out or extra ports?
Manta is a display first. Any speakers, audio output or extra ports are listed on the product page.
Shipping & delivery
Which countries do you ship to?
We ship across the EU, with a focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Will I pay customs or import fees?
No surprises. Duties and taxes are calculated and prepaid at checkout (DDP), so your order arrives without extra customs charges at the door.
How long does delivery take, and can I track my order?
Most EU orders arrive within a few business days, and you'll get a tracking link as soon as your order ships.
How much does shipping cost?
Any shipping cost is shown at checkout before you pay.
Returns & warranty
What's your return policy, and who pays for return shipping?
You have 100 days to return Manta for a refund if it isn't right for you (items in resellable condition). The return instructions explain return shipping — email us and we'll help.
What if it arrives faulty or doesn't work out of the box?
If your Manta arrives faulty or dead on arrival, contact us and we'll arrange a replacement or refund. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.
What warranty is included, and what about my EU statutory rights?
Every Manta includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. If you're a consumer in the EU, you also have your statutory warranty rights (generally two years), which apply on top.
What is Manta Care, and how do I start a return or claim?
Manta Care extends your coverage beyond the included warranty — see the tiers on the Manta Care page. To start a return or warranty claim, email support@usemanta.co with your order number and we'll guide you through it.
Payments, orders & company
Which payment methods do you accept, and is VAT included?
You can pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Klarna. Prices shown include VAT for EU customers, so the price you see is the price you pay.
Can I change or cancel my order, and will I get an invoice?
If your order hasn't shipped yet, email support@usemanta.co as soon as possible and we'll try to update or cancel it. An order confirmation and invoice are emailed to you automatically.
Where is Manta made, what certifications does it have, and how do I reach you?
Manufacturing details and Manta's certifications (such as CE, FCC and RoHS) are listed on the product page. For anything else, email support@usemanta.co — we usually reply within one business day.
